$Header: /CVSROOT/public/scylla-charybdis/md5backup/test/README,v 1.1 2004/08/22 03:13:41 tino Exp $ Xiaoyun Wang and Dengguo Feng and Xuejia Lai and Hongbo Yu published two files which have an identical MD5 sum. See: URL: http://eprint.iacr.org/2004/199/ Bad for MD5, luck for me. This two files showed, that MD5BACKUP works as expected. It is able to backup both files even if they have an identical MD5 sum. This shows that I am right: When it comes to cryptography you cannot be paranoied enough. However this two files prove something else: I have to extend Scylla+Charybdis such, that it is able to detect two files with identical MD5 sum with a higher probability. The probability currently is 0. Please note that this only is of academic interest today, as you must replace one file with another file of the same name and same MD5 hash, which still is very unlikely. Note that I pulled the ZIP from http://www.md5crk.com/md5col.zip -Tino $Log: README,v $ Revision 1.1 2004/08/22 03:13:41 tino MD5 Hash collision files added.
